Former Kentucky QB Jared Lorenzen avoided stepping on the scale for eight years. When he finally weighed himself in 2016, the first digit shown on the digital scale was a five. At 502 pounds, Lorenzen had gained more than 200 pounds since he was cut by the Indianapolis Colts, who listed him at 285 pounds, in 2008.

With the help of high-profile nutritionists and personal trainers, Lorenzen is looking to lose weight. The process will be chronicled in a video journal by filmmaker Anthony Holt, who made “Gone In An Instant” about former Kentucky basketball player Antoine Walker.

With “The Jared Lorenzen Project,” the former signal-caller known by nicknames like “The Pillsbury Throwboy” and “The Hefty Lefty” hopes to inspire others who struggle with obesity and the challenge to lose weight.

A four-minute preview clip was recently posted on the project’s Facebook page.

More background on the launch of “The Jared Lorenzen Project” can be found in this profile feature by The Herald-Leader’s Jared Peck.
