The conventional picks to win the SEC East play one another annually in Jacksonville. But who is the best of the rest to possibly upset the popular pick and knock off Georgia and Florida in the East?

ESPN’s Cole Cubelic has weighed in with Kentucky.

Speaking with Ralph D. Russo on the AP Top 25 College Football podcast, Cubelic said Tennessee is right there, and he likes the Vols offensive line, especially if it gets Cade Mays. But Jarrett Guarantano, “has got to stop throwing the ball to the other team, that’s just the reality … he needs consistency, he needs leadership from that position.” He added that the Tennessee defense lost more than people gave the Vols credit for from last season.

“I just look at the foundation of how Kentucky’s built right now,” Cubelic said. “That is being physical up front on the offensive and defensive line. They have the best center in Drake Jackson in the SEC, two tackles that have played a lot, Darren Kinnard and Landon Young. Luke Fortner’s played some at guard, he gets it. And you bring Terry Wilson back who two years ago was their starting quarterback, started last season as the starting quarterback. So he has a ton of experience.”

Cubelic paired that offensive line and quarterback with offensive coordinator Eddie Gran having several legitimate running backs to mix and match his offensive looks.

“He’s going to have a lot of different ways that he can beat you,” Cubelic said. “This coaching staff has kept a lot of the continuity together and they have consistently developed talent.”
