Bill Connelly is out with the latest SP+ ratings after spring, and LSU has jumped up 2 spots to No. 5 in the country.

Connelly noted that the transfer portal additions have been the difference for LSU. The Tigers have added Notre Dame’s Logan Diggs at running back, Maryland offensive guard Mason Lunsford, Texas defensive end Ovie Oghoufo, defensive tackles from West Virginia in Jordan Jefferson and Arizona’s Paris Shand, Oregon inside linebacker Omar Speights and Syracuse cornerback Duce Chestnut along with Ohio State cornerback JK Johnson.

“Combined with the No. 6 freshman recruiting class, that’s an awfully impressive roster upgrade,” Connelly wrote. “And it comes on the heels of on-field improvement too, as the Tigers jumped from a win-loss record of 6-7 and 39th to 10-4 and 13th last season. LSU is poised to take another step forward, and while Alabama is still the highest-ranked SEC West team here, the Bayou Bengals are within 2.7 points.”

The top 4 teams remained the same from before spring: Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Alabama.

LSU checked in at No. 5, while Tennessee is at No. 6. Other SEC teams are Texas A&M (16), Ole Miss (18), Florida (21), Kentucky (22) and Mississippi State (25) to round out the top 25. Arkansas and Auburn are at 26 and 27.
