Brian Kelly explains getting Kayshon Boutte involved early, reacts to first win at LSU
Brian Kelly has scored his first win as head coach of the LSU Tigers.
LSU took it to Southern in a Baton Rouge battle, downing the Jaguars 65-17. Kelly was complimentary of the Tigers postgame.
“It was an exciting day in Baton Rouge, playing Southern,” Kelly said. “We were excited about this matchup. It was great for the city, the community.”
Kelly touched on the performance of Kayshon Boutte, who struggled against Florida State after immense offseason hype labelled him one of the top receivers in the SEC.
Brian Kelly on getting Kayshon Boutte involved early in the game: “It was a concerted effort. We felt like it was important to get him in a good rhythm early on. … We needed to just get the ball out to him quickly and just let him make some plays.” #LSU

Kelly also praised Jayden Daniels for his performance against the Jaguars. The Arizona State transfer played better Saturday than he did Sunday night against the Seminoles, completing all but 1 pass on the evening for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Garrett Nussmeier was able to play later in the game as well. He copleted 13 of his 23 passes for 183 yards.
Brian Kelly was happy Southern was still playing hard and bringing pressure when Garrett Nussmeier entered the game.
That dynamic allowed LSU to continue running its offense and give Nuss “a fair assessment” without feeling like it was trying to run up a score.

Brian Kelly on OL changes: “We felt like with Charles Turner, he gives us really good communication, in fact, he over communicated a few times. We feel like Frazier gives us a stouter tackle and Dellinger is big and physical on the inside.” #LSU
