Brian Kelly has been through a lot this season.
Saturday night’s 37-17 victory over Oklahoma at Death Valley was a nice ending, but the journey to an underwhelming 8-4 campaign was rocky for sure. After a season-opening loss to USC in Las Vegas, LSU took off on a 6-game winning streak that had many in Baton Rouge thinking about Atlanta or a Playoff berth or both.
But then came a 3-game losing streak and rock bottom when Alabama came to Tiger Stadium and destroyed LSU, 42-13. A loss at Florida followed, and home victories over Vanderbilt and Oklahoma were nice but couldn’t mask the disappointment of the season overall.
But during his postgame press conference, Kelly wanted everyone to know that help is on the way. Not necessarily in the form of who might be coming to LSU in the offseason via the transfer portal or via recruiting but rather the “key players” who Kelly hinted will be coming back. Kelly didn’t name any names, but he seemed confident.
“Having key players come back … they haven’t announced yet, but we’re going to have some key players decide to come back,” said Kelly on Saturday night.

Who those returning players might be will soon be known, of course. Until then, disappointed LSU fans will just be left to wonder who they will be and what might’ve been in 2024.
