Brian Kelly opened the SEC teleconference with the question that’s been on the minds of Tiger fans since last Saturday. What’s the latest with QB Jayden Daniels?

Daniels took a hard hit from Dallas Turner and had to exit Saturday’s loss to Alabama, whereafter Kelly told reporters it may be a few days before he has a legitimate update.

Here’s what Kelly had to say about Daniels at this point in time:

“He worked out this morning and it appears as though that workout went well which is the last stage before he’s cleared for non-contact practice,” Kelly said. “So we’re expecting him to practice today. If all things go well through practice today then he’ll be cleared for contact on Thursday.”

Kelly also told reporters that while Daniels did not practice on Tuesday, he had a productive workout Wednesday morning and the team will make a decision compared with backup Garrett Nussmeier’s preparation level.

“It certainly triggered our protocol for a concussion, I don’t know what the medical bar is for that,” Kelly continued. “But I’ll tell you he has moved through these stages to the point where he has worked out this morning, ran 20 mph and today will be able to practice in a non-contact fashion. If he goes through today’s practice, then we’ll decide his preparation level relative to Nussmeier’s preparation and make the decision about who starts Saturday. He did not practice (on Tuesday).”

LSU faces off against Florida on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network from Baton Rouge.
