Brian Kelly is happy with not just one, but multiple quarterbacks this spring, and the LSU coach spoke on Thursday about backup QB Garrett Nussmeier.

“He’s really good, I mean, he’s had a great spring,” Kelly said. “He’s gotten a lot of work with the 1st team and when he’s been in with that first group, he’s excelled. I think all you can do is make sure that when they’re given the opportunity, it’s fair. We couldn’t give him a fair chance if he was running with an offensive line that has 3 guys that we moved over from other positions. So he had to get a lot of that work with the 1st team, and I think he excelled as well. I think all we’ve done is built the quarterback position up that we have 2 really, really good quarterbacks.”

Nussmeier is the future of the LSU program beyond 2023, and while Jayden Daniels is the starter, the Tigers appear to be more than capable if Nussmeier is needed.

Nussmeier appeared in 7 games last season, and completed 62% of his passes with 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
