Scott Woodward is no stranger to hiring Jimbo Fisher.
The now-LSU AD hired Fisher to be Texas A&M’s head coach back when he was in College Station, giving Fisher a massive guaranteed contract.
But, could Woodward hire Fisher again, bringing him to LSU and luring him away from Texas A&M? College football insider Bruce Feldman spoke on FOX Sports 1 this week saying Woodward wasn’t going to give up on Fisher without a fight (via On3 Sports):
โThe LSU [coaching search] is really interesting because even though Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M had said he plans to remain on at A&M โ and that kind of doused a lot of the speculation that Scott Woodward, the AD at LSU, would be able to hire him again,โ explained Feldman. โRemember Woodward โ when he was the AD at A&M โ was able to pry Jimbo Fisher away from FSU.
โFrom what Iโm hearing from people around LSU is that Scott Woodward is not giving up easily. And he feels like he may be able to pull Jimbo Fisher again even though the A&M people are like โno, thatโs not happening.โ So weโll see how that plays out.โ
If Fisher stays in College Station, though, Feldman says Mel Tucker could be the guy in Baton Rouge:
โMel Tucker is a guy that has obviously had a terrific year and done a really good job turning around Michigan State,โ Feldman continued. โHeโs a former LSU assistant, former Nick Saban assistant. He is very well thought of by a lot of people inside LSU, especially some really influential people.
โBut ultimately this will be Scott Woodwardโs hire. Can Jimbo Fisher really say no to him? Weโll see.โ
Fisher or Tucker? Or someone else? This LSU coaching search will continue to be one to watch moving forward.
