Joe Burrow’s NFL debut didn’t go according to plan on Sunday, as the Cincinnati Bengals lost to the Los Angeles Chargers after a missed field goal late in the fourth quarter.

However, the former LSU star and No. 1 overall pick played well, completing 23 of his 36 passes for 193 yards, 0 touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 46 yards and a touchdown.

On Monday, FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd said he thought Burrow looked good, even though his team lost:

“When you consider the circumstances, I thought he was really good,” Cowherd says. “No OTAs, no preseason. Chargers have the best pair of corners in the league. Chargers have 2 of the best pass rushers in the league — (Joey) Bosa and (Melvin) Ingram. You’re talking about a young kid, young head coach, below-average offensive line — you’ve got to grade this kid on the curve. You’ve got to consider circumstances. … He’s clearly trained for this and put a lot of hours in. I thought he looked really good.”

Burrow will have his first short week in the NFL this week, as the Bengals will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns on Thursday night. We’ll see if he looks even better as the season goes on.
