LSU coach Ed Orgeron has compared Georgia’s defense to another strong unit his team faced this year — Auburn.

“Similar to Auburn, that’s the best defense we have faced,” Orgeron said Sunday evening on an SEC media teleconference. “Different in some spots but very similar … this is the best defense we will face this year… their ability to cover 1-on-1 makes them outstanding.”

LSU hopes to live by its motto to “block out the noise,” especially in regard to its defense, like its performance against Ole Miss.

“I do believe that without us mentioning all that, there is motivation,” Orgeron said. “Our best defensive games are yet to come.”

With Georgia having several key players limited or out with injuries, Orgeron was asked if LSU had an edge?

“Big game like this, guys miraculously get better by the end of the week,” he said. “They have so many good players, I’m sure the next guy will step up. We have the same thing, next man up is what we call it and I’m sure they do it.”

Orgeron said Georgia’s changed the most along the defensive line, led by Tyler Clark.

“The defensive line is phenomenal. Clark is fantastic,” Orgeron said. “Kirby is a great coach, they have a great staff. They get all 11 hats to the ball.”

Orgeron understands that other schools will try to hire coaches from his staff, most notably passing game coordinator Joe Brady.

“Obviously, people are going to come after them,” Orgeron said. “We will fight for guys that want to stay, if a guy gets a head job, you have to let him go but we will do everything we can to keep Joe (Brady).”

Asked about Georgia’s experience in the title game as this is it’s third straight appearance, Orgeron said it must help Georgia.

“I’m sure it gives them confidence, they’ve been there before,” Orgeron said. “But we have a mature team and we will be focused on what we can control. I think we will be fine.”

Orgeron wouldn’t accept the theory that LSU will make the College Football Playoff, even with a loss on Saturday.

“No, that thought process will never enter our mind,” Orgeron said. “We have to finish the season, we have to finish this off, then we will see where we are ranked, this is a big football game and that’s all I’m thinking about.”
