In any College Football Playoff discussion, there’s always critics of some aspect in every team. For No. 1 LSU, that’s the Tigers defense.

LSU has always been built on the strength of its defense, but this year is different. The Tigers are allowing 23.8 points per game and 367.8 yards per contest, which are both ranked ninth in the SEC.

While those aren’t terrible numbers, they are actually below average in the vaunted SEC.

But when asked about whether he is disappointed in the LSU defense this season, head coach Ed Orgeron gave a very resounding no as his answer.

“Hell no! I love our defense,” he said. “We’re 10-0.”

Most coaches would probably say no, but then give a response about how the unit needs to get better. It was a breath of fresh air to hear Orgeron just flat out say he loves his defense.

Orgeron then did go on to provide a more typical coach response next:

“When you talk about that other stuff, let’s block out the noise. All that stuff on TV don’t matter,” he said. “We gotta play football games. We gotta focus in on the task at hand, and right now, it’s beating Arkansas, and that’s all we’re focusing on.”

LSU will end the regular season with two home games against Arkansas and Texas A&M. Check out Orgeron’s full answer to whether he’s disappointed with LSU’s defense below:
