After starting the 2019 season 4-0, LSU will be off in Week 5. It’s a good time for the Tigers to have an open date as multiple key players are dealing with injuries.

On the weekly SEC media teleconference, coach Ed Orgeron shared the latest on some injured LSU players.

WR Terrace Marshall Jr. suffered a foot fracture against Vanderbilt.  Marshall has already tweeted that his surgery went well.  The sophomore is expected to be out a few weeks with a possible return toward the latter part of the season. On Wednesday, Orgeron was asked if the team was considering redshirting Marshall with the projected lengthy absence.

“No, I expect him to come back,” Orgeron said. “If he can’t play, then we will… Players like him are three and out anyway, he could be a first-round pick…”

Orgeron added that he expected Marshall back “sooner than people think,” which prompted the question of when the wide receiver might return.

“Hopefully for the Alabama game but I don’t know if we can (get him back for that one),” Orgeron said.

Orgeron talked other injuries, LSU’s next opponent and more on the teleconference:

  • On Joe Burrow being Player of the Week 3 times already: I don’t even know if he knows he won it, he is so in tuned with this team… I do believe Joe could possibly be in the Heisman race by the end of the season… I think he’s that type of player, I’ve been around some Heisman players and he deserves to be in that conversation.
  • On the SEC going away from running the ball: I don’t know if we will go back to the wishbone, those days are over… the spread, the tempo, it’s the defense that has to catch up, we have to make adjustments.
  • On LSU’s injuries: Rashard Lawrence, I don’t think he will play vs. Utah State but he’s close, I think the game after. Glen Logan, I don’t think he will be ready. Michael Divinity I don’t think will be ready.
  • On Utah State’s QB: Well I’ll tell you what, I left late and (defensive coordinator) Dave Aranda’s truck was still here. I got in early and Dave Aranda’s truck was still here.
  • On two bye weeks helping recruiting: Crucial. Our coaches were out Monday, they will be out Thursday and Friday… we are already starting on the 2021 class… I like having two bye weeks, I think it’s a big advantage.
