ESPN's College GameDay reportedly selects celebrity guest picker for upcoming LSU-Florida game
UPDATE: LSU is refuting the claim that Williamson has been selected as the GameDay celebrity picker.
It would seem that, with all of the famous people that have either graduated from LSU or are connected to the university, ESPN’s College GameDay would have no problem finding someone with purple and gold in their blood to serve as the guest picker on the popular Saturday morning show.
Well, ESPN went a different route as the producers have chosen Zion Williamson, the No. 1 pick in this year’s NBA draft out of Duke University, to be the guest on stage when the show is live in Baton Rouge this weekend ahead of the Tigers’ matchup against Florida.
It makes some sense — Williamson was picked by the New Orleans Pelicans — so his popularity locally has risen since the draft. Yet it is hard to figure out why someone like Shaquille O’Neal or Ben Simmons (both No. 1 picks in the NBA) would not be asked in place of Williamson. Heck, fly down Odell Beckham Jr. for the day and have him give his opinions on the state of college football.
Anyway, fans of the game will soon find out how much Williamson, a native of South Carolina, pays attention to college football. Personally, if this doesn’t result in an arm-wrestling contest between Williamson and LSU coach Ed Orgeron, it will be a disappointment.
Ben Simmons doesnt care about LSU.
The people they’ve been getting this year have been more on the celebrity end of things, as opposed to having actual ties to the school. These people are probably fans of one of the programs on the show, but they don’t have actual ties like most of the guest pickers they used to try to get on. Zion makes no sense.
Not sure about Zion. I’d prefer someone with stronger ties to the school. But if Zion wants to really own the state even more than he does now, he better be shouting “Geaux Tigers” after he announces his pick. Lol
I would like a former LSU player, maybe Shaq, Jamal Adams, Leonard Fournette, Odell Beckham, or even our former coach, Les Miles.
I think they are all pretty busy playing football and not sure if its a good luck for a coach for kansas at college gameday for his old team lol
Wow what a waste, I dont see how an LSU fan could be happy about a duke alum being their guest picker. It’s not like he choose to go to the pelicans.
Its not like Duke is our rival…Drew brees was the guest picker once. Zion has atleast been on the field for games cheering for LSU
