If you missed it, Joe Burrow set the LSU single-game record last weekend by throwing five touchdowns in just over two quarters of action on the field against Georgia State in his team’s 55-3 win. Burrow then turned the keys to LSU’s offense over to backup signal-caller Myles Brennan early in the third quarter.

The Tigers had 14 players catch a pass in the game, which is the same number that caught at least one pass all of last season.

While each of those two stats are pretty striking, there is one that really stood out to Burrow following his team’s 55-3 win over the Eagles; the five LSU backs that saw the field on Saturday — Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Lanard Fournette, John Emery Jr., Chris Curry and Tyrion Davis-Price — were all featured in the team’s running and passing game.

“My favorite stat from Saturday is all five of our (running) backs that played caught a ball,” Burrow said in a YouTube video uploaded by Tiger Details. “I was pretty proud of that because that shows our quarterbacks weren’t forcing anything, taking our checkdowns and not forcing the ball into tight windows and risking turnovers.”

Considering how old-school LSU’s offense has been in recent years, that’s an incredible stat and one that is sure to keep opposing defenses guessing in the games to come.
