LSU coach Ed Orgeron announced on Friday that LB Donte Starks had been dismissed from the team due to a violation of team rules.

Many wondered if that had to do with Starks’ February arrest, during which he was charged with illegally possessing a concealed handgun and attempting to run from police.

However, on Saturday, Starks took to Twitter to thank LSU fans while also setting the record straight. As you can see below, he said he was dismissed from the team due to his academic struggles:

Starks was a 4-star linebacker coming out of high school in Marrero, Louisiana, as part of the 2019 recruiting class.

He appeared in 3 games for the Tigers this past season, but didn’t record any stats. We’ll see where he ends up as he continues his college career.
