Former LSU LB Kwon Alexander has prompted an outcry in support after he was punished with a fine for a seemingly innocuous tackle.

The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker was fined $43,709 for unnecessary roughness (second offense) during a preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During the play, Alexander leads with his head lowered on the tackle across the midsection of the opponent.

Here’s a sampling of the fervent criticism levied on the NFL for the fine against Alexander:

The 29-year-old Alexander made the Pro Bowl in 2017 as a member of the Buccaneers. Alexander has also played professionally for the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets. During Alexander’s junior season at LSU, he amassed a team-high 92 tackles.
