ESPN College Football analyst Greg McElroy, and former analyst David Pollack, discussed LSU football’s potential for a SEC title run.

On the “Always College Football” podcast, McElroy said the Tigers have “a roster that’s ready.”

“The quarterback situation is really good, the receivers are excellent,” McElroy said. “Their offensive line might be the best in the SEC.”

McElroy lauded redshirt sophomore Maason Smith and sophomore Harold Perkins, Jr. on the defensive side of the ball. McElroy noted if Smith is healthy, he’s the best defensive tackle in the SEC. For Perkins, LSU’s outside linebacker, McElroy said “he’s a game changer” for the Tigers.

When asked if LSU and Alabama would be favorites in the SEC West, Pollack chose the Tigers. Adding a solid recruiting class on top of the players, the Tigers have “the upper echelon that you know exactly what they are.”

Pollack agreed with McElroy’s perspective on Perkins.

“If he doesn’t give you Von Miller vibes, I don’t know who does,” Pollack said. “(Perkins) gives the rush, the speed. He plays very well.”

Pollack gave his thoughts on senior quarterback Jayden Daniels. Pollack’s first thought of Daniels was “he ain’t got a clue how to play quarterback” at the beginning of the 2022 season.

“He did not know how to fit through the pocket and go through progressions. He had all these weapons and this speed,” Pollack said. “He just needs to be more patient.”

Pollack said Daniels improved towards the end of the 2022 campaign.

“He’s scrambling less for life, he started to have a better feel for the game, he started to make more plays down the field,” Pollack said.

Pollack noted if that Daniels “takes that next leap,” the senior can be a Heisman Trophy candidate and make LSU “the team in the west I’d be most scared of.”
