LSU has an off week to digest the problems that re-surfaced on Saturday in the loss to Auburn, as coach Ed Orgeron’s team stumbled in several areas.

Oregon, on his regular segment on Tuesday morning with “Off The Bench” on 104.5 ESPN, explained how his message was getting through to the team, and how players identified what went wrong.

“Yeah, they watched it on film, it’s tell the truth,” Orgeron said. “Now there’s some things they should’ve been coached better at, number one, so I take that responsibility. There’s some things that we went over it and we ran it in practice and they ran the same play and some players didn’t perform. Players got to perform better, but I believe in our football players, we have a lot of football season left to go, we’ve got a great mindset, we had a good practice Monday.”

Orgeron also agreed with the comparison to the 2017 team, which was a young team that had to learn harsh lessons. How do you apply the lessons learned from that team?

“Guys, we’re right in the midst of building another championship program, just like we were in 2017,” Orgeron said. “We’ve got to believe in each other, but sometimes you’ve got to go through adversity. You don’t want to, but to build grit, character and toughness, you have to understand just because LSU beat South Carolina, and South Carolina beat Auburn, that doesn’t mean LSU’s going to beat Auburn. You’ve got to play every week, every Saturday’s different. You’ve got to come with your hands up to fight and Auburn did and we fought for a little bit, but after a while, we gave in, that’s on me. I do believe we’re in the midst of building another championship program … We’re going to see what this pays off for us down the road.”
