Jayden Daniels didn’t bring his A game against Florida State and LSU suffered a 45-24 defeat in its season opener.

The senior quarterback completed 22 of his 37 passes for 347 yards, a touchdown and an interception in LSU’s second straight season opening loss to Florida State.

During the postgame press conference, Daniels was accountable for his role in the loss. Daniels was outgunned by Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis, who accounted for 5 touchdowns (4 passing, 1 rushing).

“Everything falls on me…Being the leader and the quarterback of the team, I’ve got to get the guys going. I’ve got to set the urgency. I’ve got to set the tempo,” Daniels said. “…Because everybody’s looking at me and how I maneuver. I’ve got to go back to the drawing board as a leader and see what can I do better to get this team more prepared on a day-to-day basis.”

A major factor in the loss pertained to LSU failing to convert 2 4th down opportunities in the first half. Making matters even more painful, one of those chances occurred at the goal line.

Daniels gave credit to Florida State for being defensively sound and lamented the inability to execute in critical moments.

“Those 2 4th downs were very critical. Especially playing a top-1o opponent that we played tonight. They’re a good team that’s been playing together for awhile,” Daniels said. “They capitalized on those type of things. So they were able to come away with points and capitalize on those opportunities. It hurt. It set us back a lot.”

LSU will look to bounce back in Week 2 with its home opener vs. Grambling on Sept. 9 (7:30 p.m. EST/ESPN+).
