Former LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson waited until the second half of the first round to hear his name called.

Four other wide receivers went off the board before him — Alabama’s Henry Ruggs (Raiders), Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy (Broncos) Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb (Cowbooys) and TCU’s Jalen Reagor (Eagles). That meant Jefferson fell to No. 22 to the Minnesota Vikings.

In fairness, those 4 were projected as higher picks, but the Tigers pass catcher was surprised that all 4 were drafted before him.

“I mean, yes,” Jefferson said on The Zach Gelb Show. “I felt like I was the best receiver in this draft class, and being the fifth receiver off the board, it kind of was a shocker. But also having that on my shoulder going into this next season with Minnesota, I’m definitely excited to show the world what I have.”

Jefferson then vowed to make those 4 teams pay for passing on him.

“Every single person that picked a receiver instead of me are going to pay,” Jefferson said. “I’m going to show them that I am the better receiver than the pick that they had. . . . I’m definitely excited to go into Minnesota and [compete] for [a] Super Bowl.”

Jefferson had a marvelous 3-year career at LSU, racking up 165 catches for 2,415 yards and 24 touchdowns. Over 1,500 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns took place during 2019’s national championship run.

The former Tigers standout should have a very strong NFL career.
