Kirk Herbstreit didn’t mince words about LSU on College GameDay. The hot seat continued to get hotter for Ed Orgeron even before LSU took the field on Saturday.

Comments by the ESPN analyst Herbstreit on College Gameday were scathing.

“What I see is individuality,” Herbstreit said. “I see guys that quit. I see guys that don’t want to play for the LSU brand. That’s very new. You can go as far back as you want to with LSU; they might not win all of their games but they’re going to play hard for each other. That’s not the case anymore.

“LSU does not play hard. That the new LSU. It’s got to kill their alums because it’s such a proud bunch but that’s the reality and I don’t know how you change it. If you’ve got to change coaches, you change coaches. Whatever you’ve got to do. LSU has to get back to having some pride in their program.”

The talk of replacing Orgeron continues to grow despite the fact that LSU went 15-0 and won a national championship in 2019. Herbstreit called that season “lightning in a bottle”.

Fellow analyst Lee Corso questioned the replacements Orgeron made when coordinators Joe Brady and Dave Aranda left for other jobs. However, Corso picked the Tigers to upset Florida Saturday.

Analyst David Pollack said LSU lacks “attitude and toughness” while analyst Desmond Howard said, “Guys haven’t bought in to what they’re selling. You know they have the talent.”

Orgeron, who was interviewed just before the aforementioned segment, said the expectations at LSU are a national championship and reminded viewers of that 2019 season.

Other than the 2019 season, LSU is 33-17 according to ESPN. LSU is 8-8 since the 2019 season and lost to Kentucky last week 42-21. The mounting losses have many questioning if Orgeron will be retained after this season. Orgeron claimed that hasn’t affected the Tigers.

“The focus this week has been on Florida,” Orgeron said. “Florida is a great rivalry game for us…These guys are concentrating  on beating Florida and that’s it.”
