It’s been trending this way all season, but the LSU offense finished the championship campaign in a class by itself, especially in terms of offense.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit noticed, and shared his thoughts, and high praise for the Tigers, who he called the best offense ever. Only LSU, 2013 Florida State and 2008 Oklahoma have scored 700 or more points in a season.

“As long as I’ve been following the game, I’ve never seen an offense with the perfect storm of a new system, taking over for an archaic offense for like the last decade,” Herbstreit said, according to Geaux247. “And you see Joe Brady there on the left, the passing game coordinator that brought that system in from the NFL in his time with the Saints, Sean Payton and Drew Brees. And you have a quarterback that understands it, has the ability to process, has the weapons around him. It’s the most impressive offense that I think I’ve seen in my life.”

It all starts with Burrow, who Herbstreit called like an assistant coach on the field. It’s something to be witnessed in the NFL, but not in college.

“He’s in the facility as much as the assistant coaches. Studies film, breaks it down. Understands where to go with the ball. Has answers,” Herbstreit said on the broadcast. “And so when you’re the quarterback, in a full progression read system that knows where to go and finds those matchups, and throws the ball accurately, with that skill, man, it’s a great combination. It’s very rare in college. You see it with (Aaron) Rodgers and (Drew) Brees and (Tom) Brady. But not in college.”
