Quite a few different football programs claim to be “DBU” — defensive backs university. The Texas Longhorns sent an early message to LSU about who they say is “DBU” ahead of their showdown in Week 2 — “There’s only one DBU.”

It’s probably pick your poison when it comes to choosing if LSU or Texas has produced the best NFL defensive back over the last 10 years. Earl Thomas is the Longhorns’ best defensive back in the NFL since 2010 while the Tigers may stake claim to Patrick Peterson. Both players have earned three All-Pro nominations in the NFL.

But LSU has seen more of its defensive backs drafted than Texas (14 versus nine) since 2010, and more Tigers secondary players are making an impact in the NFL today than Longhorns. Just since 2017, LSU has produced Jamal Adams, Tre’Davious White and Greedy Williams while the only other impactful defensive backs from Texas drafted during the 2010’s have been Kenny Vaccaro and Quandre Diggs.

Still, with the trash-talking t-shirts, Texas is kicking off what should be a fun week ahead of a highly anticipated matchup.
