LSU has a new No. 7. Kayshon Boutte will continue the Tiger tradition in 2022.

LSU made the announcement Thursday.

“7 is bigger than football,” Boutte wrote on Instagram about his new jersey number. “It’s about Leadership, Encouragement, Accountability, and Discipline. I had to grow into 7 to understand it already had the characteristics that I was striving for. To be chosen to wear this Legendary number is an honor. I’m excited to be back on the field with my brothers and go to work this season. To do it in Number 7 is a true blessing, following in the footsteps of some of the greatest players in LSU history. Greatness begins now.”

Boutte is entering his junior season in Baton Rouge. The New Iberia, Louisiana native made the 2020 Freshman All-SEC team and was recognized as a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America after logging 45 receptions for 735 yards and 5 touchdowns in the shortened 10-game regular season. In 2021, Boutte was limited to 6 games due to an ankle injury suffered against Kentucky. He still led the Tigers in receiving yards (509) and touchdowns (9) despite missing the final 7 games of the season.
