LSU coaching search: College GameDay analysts weigh in on who Tigers should hire
The LSU coaching search is about to really turn up due to 1 game left in the regular season. Ed Orgeron will coach his last regular season game Saturday against Texas A&M, and bowl eligibility will be on the line.
Then, LSU will turn the page to a new head coach before the Early Signing Day on December 15.
On Saturday, College GameDay analysts Kirk Herbstreit, David Pollack and Desmond Howard were asked who they’d hire to replace Oregon at LSU. All 3 had very different answers.
Desmond Howard: Mel Tucker
“Despite the fact that Michigan State is offering this huge contract to Mel Tucker, if he hasn’t signed it yet, I’m going hard after Mel Tucker,” Howard said.
David Pollack: Jimbo Fisher
“If I’m allowed to have anybody, I’m going the opposite and hire Jimbo Fisher and go offense from Ed Orgeron,” Pollack said. “If I got to pick, I’d hire Jimbo Fisher.”
Kirk Herbstreit: Luke Fickell
“Luke Fickell,” Herbstreit said on College Football Gameday on Saturday. “I’d try to get Luke Fickell, even at LSU.”
LSU athletic director Scott Woodward’s top choice is rumored to be Jimbo Fisher, but the Texas A&M coach has made a couple strong statements about staying in College Station. Woodward hired Fisher while he was the athletic director at TAMU.
It’s also been reported that Mark Stoops has been contacted by LSU about the vacancy.
