While LSU’s defense was yet again very talented and effective, it did miss DL Christian LaCouture this past season.

A two-year starter, LaCouture tore his ACL this past August during fall practice. He was then forced to miss the entire season.

There was some question over his future with the Tigers. A bona fide NFL prospect, he is eligible to enter this year’s draft. However, he decided to nix that plan — instead opting to return to Baton Rouge:

According to The Advocate, LaCouture was all set to turn pro. The permanent anointing of Ed Orgeron as head coach ultimately did change his mind.

“It wasn’t easy,” said Orgeron. “[LaCouture] was gone. Pete Jenkins had a lot to do with it. Once I began (permanent) head coach, he started listening.”

LaCouture then had this to say about his decision:

“I’m really excited for this opportunity. I really feel like we’re going to have a special team next year.”
