LSU grad assistant considered 'rising star' reportedly leaving for position with Conference USA program
Considered a rising star in the coaching community, an LSU graduate assistant is reportedly leaving for a position coach opportunity at a Conference USA program.
College football insider Bruce Feldman reported Tuesday that Tigers grad assistant John DeCoster is leaving to become the tight ends coach at Old Dominion.
“Rising star coach,” Feldman wrote on Twitter. “DeCoster landed the nation’s tight end recruit Arik Gilbert this year (and) helped develop Thaddeus Moss in his breakout season. Plus he’s well-versed in this record-breaking LSU offense.”
LSU beat reporter Brody Miller of The Athletic chimed in that DeCoster “is considered one of the most important people on the LSU staff.”
Grad assistant departures aren’t usually considered big stories, but it’s clear that DeCoster will be missed at LSU. DeCoster is joining the staff of head coach Ricky Rahne, who was hired by Old Dominion on Dec. 10.
John DeCoster is considered one of the most important people on the #LSU staff, and he was a GA. He had opportunities to leave for a full-time job year, but he came back because he thought LSU could win a title.
They did. https://t.co/7f4zHJ5Ixr
