LSU’s offense is doing things that have rarely been done by the program. Joe Burrow is powering the No. 4 Tigers in a way unseen by many fans of the team.

And even former stars of the LSU program are taking notice.

During an appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on the SEC Network on Tuesday, former Tigers quarterback Bert Jones praised Burrow and LSU’s offense. Jones played for the Tigers from 1970-72.

“He is just some kind of special this year, isn’t he?” Jones said. “Everything about that offense is just clicking just right on, the receivers are doing well, Joe Burrow is just so timely on the release of his passes and knowing where his receivers are. He has a tenacity on the field that I haven’t seen at LSU … I’m not sure I’ve seen it at LSU, including myself. He has done just a fabulous job. But I mean, it’s hard to believe that LSU is throwing the ball like they are, and he is so efficient.”

Burrow has passed for 1,520 yards, 17 touchdowns and only two interceptions during the Tigers’ 4-0 start. And he continues to have stronger performances, as he passed for a career-high six touchdowns in LSU’s victory over Vanderbilt this past Saturday.

“What I like about him is the motor skills of throwing it from A to B are not that difficult at that level — in other words, he has those skills,” Jones said. “But what makes him so good is he just has a feel of the football field and knowing where he should go. His progression of reads are just excellent. He gets the ball to the receiver at the right time.

“He knows how to zing the ball in there, yet he knows how to put it up on a good fade or an over the shoulder or a comeback. He’s just playing special. I just can hardly wait until the next time I’m able to see him.”

Burrow and the Tigers have a bye this weekend. Then, LSU will host Utah State on Oct. 5 at noon ET on SEC Network.
