This year, between Connor Culp and Jack Gonsoulin, the LSU Tigers only managed to make 15 of their 24 field-goal attempts.

That is unacceptable to coach Ed Orgeron, and he’s said exactly that on multiple occasions. Now, though, the Tigers have brought in a reinforcement at the position.

On Sunday afternoon, Cole Tracy, an award-winning Division II kicker from Assumption College in Massachusetts, announced on Twitter that he was committing to LSU:

Tracy won the 2017 Fred Mitchell Award, which is given annually to the best kicker at the FCS, DII, DIII and NJCAA levels, and has made 68 of his 84 career attempts.

Tracy will join the Tigers as a graduate transfer, so he’ll have one year of eligibility remaining, which he can use without sitting out a year.

It’s not a guarantee that he lands the starting job next year, but if Culp and Gonsoulin don’t improve dramatically this offseason, Tracy will likely start the 2018 season as the starting placekicker for the Tigers.
