New LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has wasted no time in poking the bear that is No. 1 Alabama.

On Tuesday, Coach O made an offer to five-star QB Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2017:

Since Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin was the primary recruiter of Tagovailoa, LSU’s offer may be further evidence of Kiffin’s plan to jump ship to the Tigers after this season.

In his introductory press conference on Saturday, Coach O hinted at his plans to recruit Kiffin and a dual-threat quarterback like Tagovailoa:

“We’re going to look at recruiting the best offensive coordinator in football and bring him to LSU. I do believe that nowadays you have to run the spread offense. You have to have dual-threat quarterbacks that can run the ball and throw it. But you have to have somebody who knows how to run it.”

Things are going to be very interesting in Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa this offseason. It will be interesting to see if Coach O can chip away at Nick Saban’s stranglehold on the SEC (and college football in general).
