LSU targeting SEC defensive coordinator to fill opening, per report
The LSU Tigers could be poaching a defensive coordinator from an SEC team. According to a report, Missouri’s Blake Baker is a leading candidate for the job in Baton Rouge.
Baker has taken Missouri’s unit from ranking 113th nationally in total defense in 2021 to finishing 25th in 2023. The Baker-led defense at Missouri in 2023 also finished No. 11 in total sacks.

Baker is experienced in the state of Louisiana. Baker coached linebackers for LSU in 2021 and was the DC at Louisiana Tech from 2015-18. Baker is from the Houston area and played his college ball at Tulane.
Just 2 weeks ago, Baker signed a contract extension that made him one of the nation’s highest-paid assistants.
The Tigers are looking for a new DC after Matt House was fired on Wednesday. Whoever the Tigers land on for the job will have several vacancies to fill. Safeties coach Kerry Cooks, cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey were all also let go by Brian Kelly.
