Ed Orgeron has been facing a great deal of heat lately. The Tigers’ latest loss to Auburn dropped them to 3-2 on the season and, after a 5-5 mark a year ago, they’re 8-7 since going 15-0 in 2019 en route to a national championship.

College football insider Bruce Feldman discussed Orgeron’s possible job status on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff on Saturday, noting LSU athletics director Scott Woodward’s propensity to make “splashy hires” in past stops and the fact that Orgeron was hired by previous AD Joe Alleva.

“Remember, Woodward, when he was at Washington, hired Chris Petersen, and, when he was at (Texas) A&M, he got Jimbo Fisher to leave (Florida State) to go to College Station,” Feldman said on FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff” on Saturday.

Feldman also talked about the “big, uphill climb” Orgeron and the Tigers have in their next 5 games, starting with a trip to Lexington to face No. 16 Kentucky on Saturday. But he recalled LSU’s 2017 season, where, following a loss at home to Troy to drop to 3-2, the Tigers finished out the regular season 6-1 — including wins over No. 21 Florida in Gainesville and No. 10 Auburn in Baton Rouge — before falling to Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl.

“He was facing a lot of heat. People doubted him, and that’s when his team started to go on a roll,” he said.
