LSU’s secondary will have its hands full with Oklahoma’s wide receiving corps in Saturday’s Peach Bowl. Thanks to the efforts of quarterback Jalen Hurts and his playmakers, the Sooners have the 16th-best passing offense in the country with 303 yards per game. While that pales in comparison to LSU’s 2nd-ranked unit (386.8 ypg), it’s easily the most potent aerial attack the Tigers have seen all season.

The Sooners wide receiving group is led by CeeDee Lamb, the favorite target of quarterback Jalen Hurts. But other names like 2nd-leading receiver Charleston Rambo can’t be ignored as too much attention paid to Lamb will open the door for Hurts to find other ways to attack the Tigers defense.

“They’ve got playmakers all in that room,” LSU safety Grant Delpit said during a game week press conference on Tuesday. “CeeDee was a Biletnikoff finalist for a reason. He’s probably the second-best receiver in the country besides Ja’Marr (Chase).”

Despite the good-natured dig at his opponent, Chase does have Lamb beat in the statistical department, making 73 catches for 1,498 yards and 18 touchdowns compared to Lamb’s 58 catches for 1,208 yards and 14 touchdowns.

But one player in the LSU secondary that the Tigers will lean on is true freshman Derek Stingley Jr., who has made an impressive, immediate impact for the team with 6 interceptions and 15 passes defended.

“He surprised a lot of us, the amount of plays he was making,” Delpit said. “I think he’s proved himself throughout this year. Georgia was trying him a lot two weeks ago. I think he’s trying to kind of prove himself in the SEC now. I think it’s time for him to do it on a bigger stage. We’ve got all the confidence in him.”
