Playoff fraud? Fans, media debate LSU's CFP hopes following loss to Florida State
The College Football Playoff cannot be won or lost in Week 1. However, early-season statements can carry weight when the debate for the postseason ramps up later in the season.
Unfortunately for LSU, its first early-season statement of the year is an absolute clunker, losing to Florida State 45-24 Sunday night. Making matters worse, the Seminoles have secured a key head-to-head statement if the eventual Playoff discussion calls for a comparison between LSU and Florida State.
While Week 1 is prime for overreactions, a number of fans and media members are already debating LSU’s Playoff outlook after such a disastrous performance. To be fair, the Tigers have put themselves behind the 8-ball out of the gates.
No team has made the 4-team Playoff with 2 losses on their record, and the 0-1 Tigers must still face Ole Miss and Alabama on the road to go with games against Auburn and Texas A&M at home. And if the Tigers do win out, they must still face an SEC East champion in Atlanta.
Here’s how social media reacted to the Week 1 defeat:
I thought LSU-FSU would be a higher-quality game than last year and that both teams would remain in the CFP race regardless of the outcome. LSU is teetering here. Talented team but clearly a lot of things to fix.

I know a loss to a team as good as Florida State in week one isn’t a loss that disqualifies a team from CFP contention, but if Florida State scores again here LSU is going to have a “but they got their asses” kicked problem if they find themselves in a debate.

The LSU hype was just a liiiiittle much for me this summer. Thought they would be stout, but not a CFP team.
But I did NOT expect this result. Extremely impressive performance from FSU tonight.

Remember the conversation about how the loser isn’t out of the CFP
LSU should be out

You don’t make the CFP after blowout losses. LSU can forget that.

Brian Kelly…yikes. Not your best coaching performance. Big win for Florida State. Very impressed with Jordan Travis and Keon Coleman. For LSU, pretty much have to win out the rest of the season if they want to make the College Football Playoff.

It’s a blow out now. LSU getting trucked/rag doll all over the field. College football playoff resume is loading

Louisiana online sports betting is officially live in much of the state. Louisiana joined the handful of other SEC football states with legalized sports betting in January 2022.
I said, pump the breaks on LSU and Daniels. They need the stats and wins first. They are still the same team that TN blew out. Daniels wilts under pressure and this gets him in trouble. He’s got talent but this guy isn’t a Heisman QB. And LSU at number 5 and TN 12th in the rankings? LOL Overrated LSU. You didn’t learn a thing from the TN game. You still have no clue how to deal with the box numbers. You were bad with 6,7, and 8 and still defended it poorly. Also, because of the new time clock rule, there is no way to score 3 times in 7 minutes if the clock does not stop on every first down. This means you need to go much much faster. You used 5 mins of the seven you had. So mathematically you can’t score 3 times in 7 minutes with this new rule if you aren’t going uptempo and through the air. No chance.
Who cares where they are ranked. Rankings take care of themselves. The reason people are pissed is this team laid eggs last year and again tonight. This team can beat and loss to anyone.
We wouldn’t be a playoff team if there was a 12 team playoff. We are disappointingly, basically the same team as last year. Top 20 or so. I was certainly hoping for better.
Like I said for the Gators, it’s better to wait till a team has played a few games to see how a team learns and responds. LSU is a very good team and I think this will light a fire under them.
You have the talent to be, just the wrong scheme I think. It could be fixed as long as the staff is open to it. I hate to say it, but iwth LSU’s talent, running a form up Tempo spread would be massive for LSU. I think Daniels needs to have the D spread as wide as it can be and for whatever reason, the LSU D does not do much to spread D’s. FSU did this to you all night forcing 6 or 7 in the box and like the TN game, LSU had no answer for it. The answer is more speed on the edges and more push at the lines. Run the same spread offense this will clear a lane for Daniels to run and throw. You got some speed at WR but not sure why the long ball is rarely called.
Stick a fork in them! They’re done.
And if they look that bad the rest of the season they could end up with 4 losses. They have a difficult schedule and will get everyones A game this season.
I don’t see them in the CFP. They’d have to sweep the remainder of the schedule. They aren’t getting in with 2 losses.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL,,,,I gotta go pee now. A loss is a loss, is a loss, is a huge, butt kicked loss. Shame, shame, shame , go back Death Valley and let your dreams die there,,,,,as usual.
