It’s safe to say new LSU coach Ed Orgeron will be around for a few years.

On Thursday, The Advocate uncovered new details of Coach O’s five-year contract with the Tigers, which includes a hefty buyout clause.

Orgeron will make a base salary of $3.5 million per year, which is less than former coach Les Miles ($4.3 million) made annually. Coach O will make that up in incentives. His potential $1.5 million package is nearly double what Miles ($850,000) had available to him.

If the Tigers decide to part ways with Coach O this year, though, it will cost them $12 million in buyout money. In 2018, that number drops to $8.5 million — then $6 million in 2019, $4.5 million in 2020 and $1 million in 2021.

However, for both Coach O and LSU fans, the school is hoping the buyout clause never comes into play.
