A current LSU assistant coach is being linked to an open head coaching job.

Jimmy Smith of Rivals’ Tiger Details reports that LSU wide receivers coach and assistant head coach Mickey Joseph is “high on the list of candidates,” per Smiths’s sources.

A native of New Orleans, Joseph joined Ed Orgeron’s staff ahead of the 2017 season as wide receivers coach. In 2020 he added the title of assistant head coach.

Joseph’s LSU bio calls him a “Louisiana high school football legend.” The former quarterback at Nebraska under Tom Osborne has over 20 years of coaching experience.

The Southern job is open after Dawson Odums was recently hired as the new head coach at Norfolk State. Odums was Southern’s head coach for nine seasons, going 63-35 overall and 53-17 in SWAC competition.
