After an overture from Texas A&M, LSU has reportedly signed long-time assistant coach Corey Raymond to a three-year contract extension.

Multiple sources have told Tiger Details that the defensive backs coach, who turned down an offer from Jimbo Fisher, agreed to the new deal after he just completed his eighth season on the LSU coaching staff. He has a track record and reputation of being one of the premier defensive backs coaches in all of football.

With staff departures including Dave Aranda and Joe Brady, this is a big get for LSU to keep Raymond. Raymond’s credited with the recruitment and development of several LSU defensive backs in recent years, including freshman sensation Derek Stingley.

Under Raymond, LSU’s secondary has produced nine NFL Draft picks, including Jamal Adams and Tre’Davious White, who were both selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Most recently, cornerback Greedy Williams was selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, while Donte Jackson was taken in the second round in 2018.

LSU was tied with Alabama for No. in the SEC with 17 interceptions during the 2019 season. Earlier, LSU led the SEC interceptions with 17 and ranked second in the league in pass defense efficiency in 2018. LSU was the only team in the SEC to hold opponents to less than 50 percent completion percentage for the season.
