Leading up to gameday on Aug. 28, our in-house uniform expert Brad Crawford will look at every SEC team’s apparel plans this season. Some programs are incorporating new alternates while others have made subtle alterations to helmets. We have our favorite looks and we’re sure you do as well.

Here’s a team-by-team glance at what you’ll see this fall:

LSU TIGERS (NIKE)

  • 2014 HOME: Gold helmet + white jersey + gold pants OR Gold helmet + purple jersey + gold pants
  • 2014 ROAD: Gold helmet + white jersey + gold pants
  • 2014 ALTERNATE: Gold helmet + purple jersey + gold pants (preferred choice for Saturday night home games)
  • WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE: White helmet + purple jersey + white pants — If the Tigers do branch away from their traditional gold helmet for one game this season, keep the Duck Dynasty samples in the locker room. LSU has worn an alternate helmet just three times during the Les Miles era, twice during Nike’s Pro Combat campaigns during the 2009 and 2011 seasons and once during the Hurricane Katrina relief effort against Tulane in 2007. Last fall, Nike tweaked the Tigers’ shoulder stripes decreased the width of jersey numerals. The update was hardly noticeable, but the school’s primary logo alteration this fall to to its helmet decal could look unfamiliar during close-up shots. A slimmed down, less-detailed Tigerhead replaces last season’s style.
