In terms of off-field roles in college football, few have as long a resume as Austin Thomas.

Thomas, who earned a master’s degree from Tennessee, has worked at LSU twice, Southern Cal, Texas A&M and Baylor, according to his LinkedIn profile. Most recently, he was senior Associate AD/Football GM at Baylor. Now a report from Football Scoop suggests that Thomas is returning to LSU.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Thomas will be coming back to his second home, the place of his career’s steepest upward arc. The Nashville native has served key roles in both Les Miles’ and Ed Orgeron’s tenures in Baton Rouge, Thomas is returning in a senior role to LSU after he helped Dave Aranda launch his head coaching career at Baylor for roughly the past 12 months.

The report suggested that Thomas recently elicited interest from a number of programs with first-year head coaches, including multiple spots in the SEC. He’s also been on the radar of a number of NFL teams in recent years after Thomas’ ability to help introduce the “general manager” role in college football with his blend of both front-office and football recruiting-office areas of expertise.

Thomas would replace a retiring Sam Nader, who has worked with LSU for more than four decades, recently as assistant athletics director for football.
