The LSU defense has been stout under DC Dave Aranda the past two seasons, but heading into his third year as the Tigers’ highly touted defensive coordinator, the team needs to take a step forward.

Therefore, the Tigers have spent much of this spring adding new wrinkles to their defense. However, don’t expect to see any of those changes during Saturday’s spring game.

According to LB Devin White, the SEC’s leading returning tackler, the Tigers are going to keep some things in their back pockets until the games start to count:

“As a defense, as a whole, we’re taking it to another level,” he said. “Come the fall, we won’t be running the same few plays we ran the first two seasons Coach Aranda was here because we have more time to practice and have more walkthroughs.

“We’ve got a lot of stuff we won’t even run in the spring game. We’re going to keep it simple. But come September when we’re playing Miami, we’ll pull some stuff out the hat that nobody has ever seen before.”

The Tigers consistently produce incredible athletes on defense, and Aranda is considered one of the best defensive coordinators in the country, so the unit should be a lot of fun to watch this fall.
