Dak Prescott injury update: Cowboys share status of QB heading into Week 9

Dak Prescott continues to make encouraging progress in his return from a calf injury.
After missing the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 8 win over the Minnesota Vikings, Prescott appears to be trending in the right direction for the team’s Week 9 matchup vs. the Denver Broncos.
On Thursday, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters (including Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News) that Prescott would be getting first-team reps in practice, which wasn’t the case last week. McCarthy added that “the plan is for him to practice and play.”
Prescott expressed a similar sentiment, telling reporters that it’s “safe to say” he’ll play on Sunday. (h/t The Athletic’s Jon Machota)
The Cowboys still beat the Vikings even though they started Cooper Rush at quarterback, but they’ll get a boost from the return of Prescott. In his sixth NFL season, the former Mississippi State QB continues to be among the best in the league when healthy.
Prescott has passed for 1,813 yards, 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in 6 games this season.
The Cowboys and Broncos are set to kick off on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
