Luke Getsy’s claim to fame so far in his coaching career was the highly successful stint he had as receivers coach for the Packers. Turns out, Getsy may be more popular in Green Bay than he realizes.

If you were unaware, Joe Moorhead’s offensive coordinator at Mississippi State served as an assistant coach in Green Bay for four seasons, coaching with the offense and more specifically receivers, from 2014 to 2017. During that time, players like Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams emerged as some of the best players in the NFL at their position.

Now that the Packers have a new head coach in Matt LaFleur, Getsy could be returning to the Packers coaching staff, according to Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel. Silverstein notes that Getsy’s great relationship with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is currently helping his stock in Green Bay.

Silverstein also quotes a source suggesting the move could happen in part due to the demanding nature of recruiting college coaches have to deal with on a daily basis. That’s one aspect of the college game that continues to keep more and more NFL coaches away from taking college jobs.

One source said the recruiting aspect of college football had been tough for Getsy and a return to the NFL wouldn’t be a big surprise.

Before getting into coaching, Getsy was Moorhead’s quarterback at Akron. He later would become a GA under Moorhead.
