Joe Moorhead after Mississippi State's Egg Bowl win: 'You'll have to drag my yankee ass out of here'
Throughout the season, there have been plenty of rumors about Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead on social media, traditional media and message boards. The second-year coach made it clear on Thursday – he’s here to stay at MSU.
“This is my team. This is my school. This is my program,” Moorhead said after a 21-20 win over Ole Miss in a dramatic Egg Bowl. “You’ll have to drag my yankee ass out of here.”
There’s nothing quite like winning a rivalry game on Thanksgiving. Moorhead is now 2-0 in the Egg Bowl. Here are some of the other highlights from Moorhead’s lively postgame press conference:
- “In 21 years of coaching and a bunch more as a player, I don’t know that I’ve gone through a season with as much adversity as we’ve faced (this year).”
- “The kids just kept fighting.”
- “I’m damn proud of this team.”
- On what he told QB Garrett Shrader: “I brought you here for a reason: be Garrett Shrader.”
- On QB Tommy Stevens, who did not play: He was hurt in the Abilene Christian game.
- On his job security: “It’s never been a discussion, in my mind.”
- Moorhead said there’s no doubt he’ll be back for 2020. anyone who thinks he isn’t the man for the job can “pound sand” or “kick rocks.”
- Willie Gay and Marcus Murphy told Moorhead “We got you coach.”
Nice comments. Not all fans will appreciate them, but it appears he will be the coach next season.
I always suspected he’d be returning for at least another year. Here’s to hoping he proves us all wrong.
And he’ll continue to drag our program into the dump. Awesome but of course our “fans” don’t understand that. We are all about making memes
My only response to you tonight: Enjoy that loss, rebel. Really chew on it.
Oh look the guy that didn’t go to state that everyone hates lol. You must be an ole miss fan because you love seeing our program tank
Everyone knows you’re just white Ole Miss trailer trash. Probably the illegitimate father of the player that lost the game. Are you proud of him?
Says the troll
You’re bad at this.
So are you
Pay no attention to that troll behind the curtain.
*referring to HBY.
Oh I know, he’s an obvious ole miss troll. I just want to rub it in one good time.
The only thing you’re rubbing in is your lack of education haha
Says the obvious troll
14-11 isn’t exactly the dump. Disappointing yes, but at State it’s one of the best win % of any coach in our history
Pathetic
This kind of feisty combative rant really isn’t a good look for a head coach who’s program has underachieved for two years. Not saying he should be run out of Starkvegas, but where is the cool guy who was handing out cheese fries down at Bin 612 a couple years ago? Respect the fans, most of whom respect you as a person and the effort you put forth, including those of us who are pretty disappointed in your job performance so far.
Yeah I’d absolutely love to be wrong about him, but signs but to us being correct. A strong 2020 season would be amazing though.
Coozie you didn’t even go to state
You said exactly what I did so you’re a troll
Sounds vaguely familiar…
keep him….the other SEC West Divison teams are laughing now !
True.
Boy, that sounds a little arrogant, Joe. Let me help put things in perspective for you. State didn’t win so much as Ole Miss lost. Your famous offense didn’t suddenly appear after 2 years. As long as I’m on the subject, I’d like to point out something: in those 2 years, your offense has done nothing except lose, when State won it was with a running game which looked bits & pieces of Mullen’s, otherwise your offense has laid an egg while you have been at MSU. I watched the game and any sane person would’ve given thought to firing every coach at the game. Both teams looked poorly coached. But I can understand how you feel. If I had a gig where a bunch of hicks paid me 3 million a year to do something I was totally inept at I might consider making them drag me away too. But I hope I’m not that shallow.
Joe, getting lucky one game doesn’t change anything in the past. You still suck as a coach, and the last 2 years still happened. Last year you took a team which should have won 10-11 games and went 8-5. Then bragged about it. This year you took a team which had the talent to win 8 games with a decent coach and lucked out to 6-6 as the last team committed suicide. It’s laughable that you think you had anything to do with Ole Miss losing. Don’t get too attached to the school, your recruiting sucks and you’re still not a good coach.
