Mississippi State fans sound off after Dan Mullen, Florida win in Starkville
When Dan Mullen was hired at Florida last November and returned to the school he helped win two national titles, Mississippi State fans immediately circled the game Saturday night.
Mullen helped the Bulldogs win 69 games as their head coach from 2009-17, but he handed his former program a surprising 13-6 loss in Starkville Saturday night.
The sight may have been familiar to Mullen, but the fan reception was not. He was met with a chorus of boos as the Gators ran onto the field as Mississippi State fans hoped they could prove to Mullen that the Bulldogs could win without him.
Instead, Mullen showed he wasn’t phased by the conversation surrounding his return. It took a double pass trick play touchdown to give Florida the lead early in the third quarter.
The Gators had previously known their success to come on the offensive side of the ball, but it was their defense that stepped up against MSU, including making six sacks.
Mississippi State fans took to social media following the game to sound off on the loss:
Joe Moorhead is not an upgrade from Dan Mullen.
Dan Mullen left this program, and our program will be worse for it.
Those are just the facts. Unfortunately, we’ll have to deal with them.

Mississippi State looks garbage without Dan Mullen

Ok fine, I'll say it….Dan Mullen is going to be much harder to get over than we hoped. This offense is Woody McCorvey bad right now. I'm every combination of pissed, sad, disappointed, and fed up possible.

Dan mullen built this program? You mean after he left us last year before the Egg Bowl? That game when Fitzgerald almost had his career ended? Sure.

This feels like karma for so many saying we upgraded at coach without ever seeing Moorhead coach a down.

Mississippi St on longest scoring drought sin Dan Mullen’s 1st year in 2009? That didn’t take long…

The silence of this offense is completely unacceptable. You should know Dan Mullen knows all of Fitzgerald’s strengths and weaknesses. #HailState

I hate State, but I hate Dan Mullen more than I hate Joe Buck. For people that know me, that’s a lot. #RollCowbell
