When Dan Mullen was hired at Florida last November and returned to the school he helped win two national titles, Mississippi State fans immediately circled the game Saturday night.

Mullen helped the Bulldogs win 69 games as their head coach from 2009-17, but he handed his former program a surprising 13-6 loss in Starkville Saturday night.

The sight may have been familiar to Mullen, but the fan reception was not. He was met with a chorus of boos as the Gators ran onto the field as Mississippi State fans hoped they could prove to Mullen that the Bulldogs could win without him.

Instead, Mullen showed he wasn’t phased by the conversation surrounding his return. It took a double pass trick play touchdown to give Florida the lead early in the third quarter.

The Gators had previously known their success to come on the offensive side of the ball, but it was their defense that stepped up against MSU, including making six sacks.
