Mississippi State continued its strong momentum on Sunday by picking up a major commitment in the class of 2024.

The Bulldogs landed 4-star quarterback Michael Van Buren, who will now become the first high school quarterback to sign with Mississippi State in the Jeff Lebby era.

Here’s his announcement:

Van Buren was previously committed to Oregon. He is the No. 175 overall player and the No. 13 quarterback in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 7 player from the state of Maryland.

Van Buren attends St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He’s listed at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds.

Lebby and his staff have done a lot of work to re-shape Mississippi State’s quarterback room in the early part of this offseason. The Bulldogs previously landed a commitment from Baylor transfer Blake Shapen, who is expected to lead that group in 2024.

Mississippi State now has 17 commitments in the class of 2024. The class sits at No. 40 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
