Missouri coach Barry Odom needed some advice.

The defensive coordinator in the midst of moving to his first head coaching position sought out someone who had been through the same thing. Odom talked with Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason, Stanford’s defensive coordinator from 2012-2013, during last year’s SEC meetings about making the transition.

Mason revealed their interaction during his portion of the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday.

It’s a classy move from Mason, who has to contend with Odom’s Missouri squad in the SEC East every year. The two coaches will square off for the first time Nov. 12 in Columbia.

Odom also discussed his exchange with Mason during his session of the teleconference later in the morning.
