Eli Drinkwitz discusses Sam Horn's MLB Draft prospects, how that led to adding Jack Abraham to Mizzou QB room
Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers have potentially a 4-way quarterback battle heading into fall camp.
Returning to the team from last year’s squad are Brady Cook and Tyler Macon. Joining those 2 are Mississippi State transfer Jack Abraham and 4-star freshman Sam Horn.
However, Horn will face a difficult choice over the summer, as he’s also a top baseball prospect and figures to hear his name called at some point in the 2022 MLB Draft. On Thursday, Drinkwitz discussed Horn’s baseball prospects and how that led the Tigers to bringing in Abraham:
#Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz says that QB Sam Horn will have a big decision to make in July when the MLB Draft rolls around.
Horn could get drafted, so he would need to chose between that and a future at MU ⤵️ Drink says he's had conversations with his family about it. pic.twitter.com/hSty4RwZIh

“I’m not naive to the fact that Sam is going to have a difficult choice in front of him in mid-July, as he is an unbelievable baseball player with the ability to get drafted,” Drinkwitz said. “He’s going to have to make a decision on which sport he wants to pursue in the future. I’ve met with his family and him and we believe he’s got a great, unbelievable future here as both a football player and a baseball player within the Mizzou football and baseball families. That’s what we’re pushing him on.
“But I’m also not naive to the fact that he could choose to pursue a career in the major leagues. I could not stay status quo and only have 2 quarterbacks on the roster with experience.”
We’ll see what happens in July at the MLB Draft, but both Mizzou football and baseball fans are hoping to see Horn on campus this fall.
I’m thinking Sam horn is going to play baseball, unfortunately. Hopefully he’ll get inspired by guys like Mahomes and kyler Murray and stick with football.
It isn’t a difficult decision at all. Sam Horn will play professional baseball. He’s at least as talented a pitcher coming out of high school as Brady Singer and Zack Greinke were coming out of college.
Based on what? He may end up being that good, but both of those guys were sure fire first rounders… Greinke 6th overall out of high school and Singer was drafted at 18. I’ve seen Horn anywhere from the 72nd to the 135th best prospect. One site even had him as the 34th best RHP. It looks like Horn will probably be a 3rd rounder at best, and the team that drafts him will knowingly have to slot him even higher as far as contract $$ goes to get him to not play football. I’m not predicting anything, I’m just not sure about your comparison.
That’s not at all accurate.
mike’s an anti-Mizzou troll.
Football/ baseball / college degrees/ maximizing enjoyment of life. Only Horn himself can put values on these. If he thinks like me he will get two years of transcripts building done now and measure himself against college batters/ defensive backs. A quarterback that has a chance to throw to Luther Burden has a rare window of opportunity and shouldn’t have to think too hard about what to do, and
Cook, and three contenders till Sept. 2023. Enough said. Bazelak wasn’t holding Missouri back last year and QB won’t be holding them back this year either. But all 22 positions have to improve to finish higher in the rankings
I would say that 99% of college football’s 2022 freshman class doesn’t know if they will ever play for sure
I would say that 75% of college football’s 2022 freshman class doesn’t know if they will ever play for sure. Even if they are 5 stars they can get injured.
