Mizzou OF Kameron Misner was the first Tiger off the board in the 2019 MLB Draft, going No. 35 overall to the Miami Marlins.
He was quickly followed by one of his teammates, LHP T.J. Sikkema, who was chosen No. 38 overall — a first-round competitive balance pick — and will join the New York Yankees’ organization.
Sikkema appeared in 17 games, starting 13, in 2019. He went 7-4 and also had two saves. He posted an ERA of 1.32 and threw two complete games, notching 101 strikeouts in 88.2 innings of work.
Sikkema’s draft slot is valued at $1.95 million, so that might be too much money for the junior lefty to pass up. However, should he decide to return to school, he has one year of eligibility remaining.
