Florida baseball gets walk-off win against High Point, avoids sweep
Florida defeated High Point in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon.
The Gators won 12-11 thanks to a walk-off walk in the bottom of the 9th inning. Florida scored 4 runs in the final frame to secure the victory with Colton Schwarz drawing the decisive free pass.
Here’s a clip of the final pitch of the game, which allowed the Gators to salvage the series vs. High Point:
Florida’s Brendan Lawson continued his hot start to the season on Sunday. He blasted 2 home runs, including a solo blast in the bottom of the 9th inning — the first of 4 Florida runs in the final stanza.
Despite the triumphant comeback, it was a disappointing weekend for the Gators. They lost to High Point (9-6) on Friday and Saturday and were nearly swept by the Panthers on Sunday.
Florida entered the weekend ranked No. 9 nationally and clocked in at No. 2 in Saturday Down South’s most-recent SEC Baseball power rankings. Despite the setback, Florida remains a contender for the College World Series championship on Kalshi:
Florida’s bats struggled over the first 2 games of this series, contributing just 2 runs on Friday and 2 runs on Saturday. The Gators will need improved offensive production moving forward if they hope to contend at a high level this postseason.
Next up for the Gators is a mid-week tilt against Florida State on Tuesday in Gainesville.
