“It’s massive. It’s so hard to win this league, and then win it outright,” Georgia coach Wes Johnson said. “It’s something that you want to check off on your list of things that you’ve ever accomplished. It’s right up there. It’s hard to do. It’s ten weekends of just meat house grinding.”
The Bulldogs rattled off 14 hits against the Tigers on Saturday night at Foley Field and scored eight runs in the second inning – the 11th time this season Georgia has scored more than seven runs in a single inning – to set an early tone. Kolby Branch went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Michael O’Shaughnessy went 2-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored, and Jordy Oriach went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Cade Arrambide drove in three runs and Chris Stanfield smacked a pinch-hit three-run homer for LSU. Paul Farley (6-1) earned the victory for Georgia, while Marcos Paz (1-3) took the loss for LSU.
